But there is a more expensive invoice being handed to women every day.

I call it the Biology Tax.

It’s the compounding cost of working in a system designed for a 24-hour male hormonal cycle while living in a female body that runs on a 28-day rhythm.

It is the unique physical toll of the double burden, the high-stakes career plus the unpaid emotional labor/caregiving that still disproportionately falls on female shoulders.

When we ignore our natural rhythms to meet a quarterly quota we are incurring interest on our health, our wealth and our future.

The Invisible Invoice: What it’s Costing You

If you are in sales, your body is your business. But when you stay in a state of survival mode and ignore the Biology Tax long enough and it comes to collect.

#1 Hormonal Imbalance: Chronic stress keeps you in a perpetual fight or flight loop. Cortisol and adrenaline, meant for short bursts, stay elevated, disrupting your sleep, your mood, and your metabolic health. Focus and energy is the first thing to go when selling, which is your superpower.

The Cost is a Promotion: Research from McKinsey & Company shows that for every 100 men promoted to manager, only 72 women are promoted. While there are many reasons for this, the Biology Tax drains energy and capacity longterm required to sustain performance.

#2 Internalized Stress: Men are often taught to externalize stress (aggression/impulsivity), but for women we stuff it down and internalize it. We ruminate, analyze and worry about the impact on our clients. This internalization manifests as chronic pain and fatigue.

The Cost is Power in Confidence: Burnout leads to a 13% dip in confidence. In a commission-based world, confidence is your currency. If you don’t believe in your pitch, your prospect won’t either.

#3 Body Breakdown: Burned-out professionals are 23% more likely to visit the emergency room and 63% more likely to take a sick day. There is a real cost to constantly pushing past your limits instead of working in rhythm.

The Cost is Profit: At some point your body forces the pause and you cannot perform if you cannot function. Studies show that when burnout hits a household, female spouses experience a 4.4% drop in labor income, while men experience almost no change.

Success in sales shouldn’t feel like a war against your own anatomy.

What if your peak performance wasn’t a flat line of 100% effort, but a wave?

Next week I’ll break down women’s natural performance rhythms and share my perspective on traditional cycle syncing.

If you’re a driven women who wants to maximize her sales performance without sacrificing your wellbeing check out our beta program here that kicks off March 10th: www.joininphase.com/beta

Thanks for reading League of Her Own! They burn out because they keep asking their body to perform like a machine that never changes.

That mismatch is where energy leaks. When you ignore internal signals, you compensate.

Integration Fixes Timing

When you actually know what kind of sales day you’re walking into, everything changes.

When you stop guessing and start recognizing your own patterns, you make three clear decisions:

Place pressure where the system can hold it. High-stakes calls and negotiations belong on days when your confidence is innate and your language flows. You don’t “warm yourself up” with willpower, you schedule for peak availability.

Separate creation from execution. CRM cleanup and proposal building don’t require the same deep presence as a discovery call. When you stack admin tasks onto days meant for influence, you dilute both. Integration means respecting the difference between being on and being internal.

Protect recovery as a performance input. Recovery doesn’t require you to go off-grid bake sourdough in the woods, it is capacity insurance. Let’s be real: we’ve all been on those calls where we’re “faking” the energy. You’re over-caffeinated, talking 20% too fast, and the prospect can smell the desperation. That’s not high performance; it’s an expensive mistake. From Fantasy to Precision

Most sales calendars fail because they are built on fantasy capacity, the idea that you will be a relentless Girlboss every Monday at 8:00 AM.

Integration replaces fantasy with pattern recognition. You stop moralizing low-energy days and you stop borrowing energy from next week. When your nervous system knows what’s coming, you show up steadier. Your tone shifts. Your timing improves. Prospects feel that groundedness.

Integration isn’t about slowing down or optimizing every minute of your day, it’s about precision.

Precision is how you keep the revenue of a Girlboss without the breakdown and the peace of a Soft Girl without the empty pipeline.

Thanks for reading League of Her Own! You know the routine: a calendar blocked to the minute, an inbox in constant motion and a laptop that stays warm until 9:00 PM.

On paper, you’re crushing it. But internally? Something feels broken.

We’ve been conditioned to treat our energy like a flat line: constant, unwavering and available every Monday through Friday.

When that energy inevitably dips, we blame ourselves. We take our drive and we weaponize it against ourselves.

Subscribe now

I used to view my own inconsistency as a moral failure.

I assumed that if I wasn’t “on” every single day, I simply didn’t want it enough.

So I did what we’re all taught to do: I doubled down. I stacked calls and kept showing up even when my system was already depleted.

The uncomfortable truth is that “busy” is often just a sophisticated safety net.

If your day is packed with frantic activity, you never have to face the terrifying possibility of doing the wrong thing at the wrong time.

We overcompensate today because we don’t trust how we’ll feel tomorrow. It’s a survival mechanism rooted in a lack of self-trust and it’s a one-way ticket to a pattern of self-betrayal.

We borrow energy from next week just to survive Tuesday and we wonder why the work starts to feel heavier than the reward.

Sales doesn’t reward effort, it rewards resonance.

Most women in sales were taught to operate as if every day should look the same. Same cadence, same pressure and same expectations.

We aren’t assembly-line workers. Precision outperforms volume. One well-timed conversation and one clear follow-up can do more than a week of depleted effort.

Traditional sales playbook ignores the most basic truth of our existence: women don’t wake up in the same body every day. Our physiology shifts throughout the month.

We have days where:

words flow

confidence is effortless

everything feels loud

even sending a single email feels heavy

When we ignore these shifts, we aren’t being disciplined, we’re being delusional. We are trying to run a high-performance engine while ignoring the fuel gauge and the body goes into override.

You might still hit your numbers this way, but the friction required to get there is unsustainable. The “win” starts to feel questionable when the cost is your own well-being.

Subscribe now

The shift from “Grinding” to “Energy Forecasting” is where you actually find control.

This isn’t about doing less or being “soft” on your goals, it’s about pattern recognition. High performance is about the predictability of your capacity. When you stop negotiating with yourself every morning and start forecasting your energy, the self-doubt evaporates.

Energy Forecasting removes the daily question mark.

You stop asking yourself: “What is wrong with me today?”

Instead of fighting your capacity, you anticipate it. That predictability creates calm, not because the goals are smaller, but because your nervous system finally knows what’s coming.

You place high-stakes conversations when your system is naturally available for a challenge. You reserve lower-capacity days for quieter work and deeper recovery.

Productivity becomes sustainable not because you’ve lowered the bar, but because your body and your calendar have stopped fighting each other.

Strategic anticipation removes self-doubt and turns natural fluctuation into a repeatable system.

Next week, I’m going to get tactical. I’ll break down exactly what changes when you actually know what kind of sales day you’re walking into and how to build a calendar that actually converts. That’s where effort starts working for you instead of against you.

Thanks for reading League of Her Own! time and this felt like the right place to start sharing it.

I’m interested in how women actually function. How energy levels and focus fluctuates. How our physiology and psychology shapes drive, confidence, decision making and sales.

Most advice women get about success boils down to being consistent every day and powering through if you want to win. Especially in the business world.

Thanks for reading League of Her Own, subscribe for free here.

And yeah it works…. until it doesn’t.

But I’m not here to tell you how a sabbatical changed my life, that I’ve stopped pushing my limits or that the soft life is the answer.

Here’s my background. I’ve spent the last decade working at the intersection of performance and embodiment. I’ve been fixated on productivity since high school and an entrepreneur since college. I’m currently the founder of the tech startup InPhase, an app that combines physiology and AI for women who sell. I’ve taught yoga and meditation, alongside executive performance coaching for over 16 years. I’ve worked primarily with high-performing women both one-on-one and through group programs and workshops.

This work isn’t theoretical for me, it’s lived.

I realized that when I or the women I was supporting hit a wall, it wasn’t a lack of discipline or traditional burnout. It was that the workplace isn’t designed for our unique operating system.

League of Her Own is where I explore a different approach, a new playbook:

Performance designed around women’s natural cycles and strengths

Work rhythms that don’t require self-abandonment

Strategy that integrates intuition and data

Ambition that feels sustainable instead of punishing

My goal here is to share things I find educational, interesting and sometimes a little edgy. I think it’s important to challenge what we’ve been taught to normalize, especially as we sit in this liminal space of reimagining the future of work.

Everything comes back to one question: What becomes possible when women stop fighting their design and start working with it?

If you’ve ever felt like success costs you more than it should, you’re in the right place.

Welcome to League of Her Own. I’ll be posting here weekly and sharing behind-the-scenes insights as I build InPhase along the way.

Thanks for reading League of Her Own, subscribe for free here.

But before I go… a few fun facts.

My name is Yoddable (Emily-Leahy-Who), and yes, my dog’s name is too (Layla-Leahy-Who). I have a growing obsession with the color red. I’m usually happiest bouncing between cities. I fall asleep immediately on planes. And last but not least, I’m a self-proclaimed bougie hippie, which mostly means I’m either in a dress or yoga pants and very rarely in jeans.
